Steps to Financial Aid Apply for Scholarships

By joining the NC Caregivers Program, upon successfully completing your training and testing you will be reimbursed for your education and testing. Once you have been added to the official Nurse Aide Registry, you will be eligible for a $500 retention bonus from participating skilled nursing facilities across the state after six months of full-time or part-time employment.

Prerequisite

Placement out of or completion of Transition English (ENG 002 or BSP 4002) or higher-level English course; WorkKeys Workplace Documents assessment, level 5 or higher.

 

Registry Listings

Graduates of this curriculum may be eligible to be listed on the North Carolina state registry as a Nurse Aide I and Nurse Aide II.

Non-Academic Course Requirements

Complete information is provided to students upon registration.  Students are responsible for the costs, which are subject to change.

 

Criminal Background Checks/Drug Screens

• Criminal Background Checks and Drug Screens are required. Results are viewed only by clinical affiliates.
• Students may be prohibited from clinical education at specific clinical affiliates based on results, which could prevent students from progressing in the program.

 

Immunizations

Proof of all childhood immunizations and other specific vaccines, including:

• Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, & Pertussis)
• Varicella (Chicken Pox)
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, & Rubella)
• Hepatitis B* (six-month series)
• Tuberculosis Skin Test
• Influenza: required annually
• COVID-19: See below. Effective January 2024, the COVID-19 vaccine is not required by clinical agencies used for the Nurse Aide program.

*Some vaccines require a series of injections that take place over the course of several months.  Students may need to begin a vaccine sequence prior to application to meet the deadline.

²ÝùÊÓƵԭ´´ does not require specific immunizations in order to enroll or attend classes on campus.  However, Health Sciences and Nursing programs require clinical hours.  Students admitted to an SCC Health Sciences or Nursing program must comply with the requirements set by outside clinical agencies, which may include a criminal background check, drug screen, physical, and/or specific vaccines.  Decisions about an individual student’s presence in the clinical environment are made by the clinical agencies.

We are guests in our clinical facilities and in order to have clinical privileges, must abide by their requirements for students and faculty. Notice of changes of agency requirements may or may not provide us with much notice.

If requirements are made by a SCC clinical agency and a student chooses not to comply, they may not be eligible to complete the clinical requirements of the program and thus become unable to enter or complete a course and the program.

Management of these requirements is reserved to ²ÝùÊÓƵԭ´´ employees only.  Students may not contact clinical agencies directly to discuss requirements.  Doing say may result in denial of admission or dismissal from a program.

Nurse Aide I Certificate of Completion

ALL students MUST take a NC state-approved Nurse Aide I course. LPNs with a current, unrestricted license to practice in NC will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

• If the course was completed before June 1, 2022, submit a Certificate of Completion from a state approved NAI training program having theory, lab, and clinical components completed AND current active listing on North Carolina NA I registry.
• If the course was completed after June 1, 2022, submit a Certificate of Completion from a state approved NA I training program having theory, lab, and clinical components.

This requirement is part of Stage III.  The deadline to complete this requirement and provide the Certificate of Completion is July 31 immediately prior to beginning NUR clinical courses.  The course does not need to be completed before submitting a Stage II Worksheet (application) to the ADN program.

Being on the NC Registry does not meet the ADN program requirement unless you completed a state-approved NAI course (i.e., Medical Assistants, EMTs, Paramedics, etc. must still take a state-approved NAI course).

Spring 2024 Schedule

 

Registration for the Nurse Aide courses is managed through the Continuing Education office.

The Nurse Aide I course offered at ²ÝùÊÓƵԭ´´ is approved by the State of North Carolina.  The course is identical, whether you are registered as a Curriculum or Continuing Education student.  Either option will meet the requirement to take the State registry exam, or to apply for the ADN program.

Due to Federal and State requirements, some students may be required to register for the course as curriculum students.  This registration will still be managed through the Continuing Education office.
