Health Care
In "Central Sterile Processing," students will learn to apply the principles of sterilization and disinfection in the workplace, as well as the principles of distribution of instruments and supplies. Explore preparation, storage, quality assurance, and inventory management. This class prepares students for the Sterile Processing Technician certification offered by CSPD. This class will be held in a hybrid format. Wednesdays will be classroom instruction, and 3 hours per week will be online. This class will be held August 16-December 13 from 6-9 pm, and this class will cost $187.50 plus the cost of the textbook.
"CPR for Healthcare Providers" is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR and other lifesaving skills in various in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. Held on Saturday, August 26, from 8:30 am- 12:30 pm, this class will cost $50 plus a $5 card fee.
"EKG Technician" will prepare students to become a Certified Electrocardiogram Technician (EKG) with ASPT. Study the anatomy and physiology of the heart, the pulmonary system (lungs), the electrical impulses that make the heart pump and contract, and the segments, waves, and intervals of a 12-lead EKG. Clinical experience will teach the placement of electrodes on the body. Held August 21-December 11 from 6-9 pm, this class will be held in a hybrid format. Mondays will be classroom instruction, and 3 hours per week will be online. This class will cost $187.50 plus the cost of the textbook. An additional class will be held from August 15-December 5. Tuesdays will be held on Zoom from 6-9 pm, 3 hours per week will be online, and in person lab Tuesdays in November and December.
In "Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)," students will learn patient registration, telephone, scheduling, medical records, accounts receivable, data entry, and medical claims. This class prepares individuals for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) national certification exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). This class will be held in a hybrid format. Mondays will be classroom instruction, and 3 hours per week will be online. This class will be held August 21-December 11 from 6-9 pm, and this class will cost $265.50 plus the cost of the textbook. An additional class will be held from August 15-December 5. 6 hours per week will be online, and the first class will be a Zoom session.
In "Medical Assisting Part 1," students will become Medical Assistants in this eleven-month three-part program. "Medical Terminology + A&P" will provide an introduction to the study of medical words and terms. Students will learn basic human anatomy and physiology for all body systems, laboratory medicine, pharmacology, elements of medical terms, and names of major diseases, including terms used in physical exams, operative procedures, and diagnosis. Held online from August 28-December 8, this class will cost $185 plus the cost of the textbook.
In "NC Community Health Worker," students will become certified as Community Health Workers (CHW) in North Carolina. Upon completion of this training, students will be eligible for listing as NC Certified Community Health Workers. This class will be held online with Zoom classes. Tuesdays will be Zoom instruction, and 3 hours a week will be online. This class will be held August 15-December 5 from 6-9 pm, and this class will cost $185 plus the cost of the textbook.
"Nurse Aide Level 1" will prepare students to work as a nurse aide under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals by performing hands-on patient care. "Pharmacy Technician" will prepare students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam and entry-level employment. Topics include technical procedures for preparing and dispensing prescriptions, packaging and labeling, controlled substance procedures, inventory control, pharmacy calculations, and over-the-counter drugs. Upon completion, students will be able to perform basic supervised dispensing techniques in a community pharmacy setting. The prerequisite for this course is WorkKeys Math Level 3. This class will be held in a hybrid format. Mondays will be classroom instruction, and 4.5 hours per week will be online. This class will be held August 21-December 11 from 6-9:30 pm, and this class will cost $187.50 plus the cost of the textbook. An additional class will be held online with Zoom classes. Tuesdays will be Zoom instruction, and 4.5 hours a week will be online. This class will be held on August 15-December 5 from 6-9:30 pm.
"Phlebotomy Technician" will teach students the skills to draw blood specimens in various healthcare settings and blood donation centers. Topics include venipuncture, specimen handling, record-keeping, and the healthcare profession. ENG 111, 112, or WorkKeys Workplace Documents test, current immunizations, and signed memo of understanding are required for registration. Fall Semester
A fall semester flightPath has been published on the 草霉视频原创 website (www.sandhills.edu/flightpath). It contains information about all curriculum programs and Workforce Continuing Education classes set to begin in August through December.
Curriculum classes will begin on August 14. In addition to the traditional 16-week semester, there will be two eight-week sessions, one beginning on August 14 and the second on October 11. Boys & Girls Club
A Boys & Girls Club unit is offered on the 草霉视频原创 campus. It runs from 2:30 to 6:30 pm for kindergarten through fifth grade. The club is ideal for parents/guardians taking SCC afternoon or evening classes, those who need study time, need to utilize the computer lab or work on projects. Club participants will receive homework assistance, and dinner is offered. The cost is $40 per child per year. The club provides transportation from McDeeds Creek, Farm Life, and Carthage Elementary schools.
In addition, drop-in services are available free of charge to 草霉视频原创 students from 6-9 pm. This is ideal for students taking afternoon or evening classes, working on group projects, or for other academic reasons. Classes for High School Students
Moore and Hoke County High School students can take SCC classes as juniors and seniors at no cost. High school counselors can help schedule these classes, or home or private school students can contact Kim McMillan at mcmillank@sandhills.edu.
Students who reside in Moore and Hoke Counties and successfully complete the required number of classes through 草霉视频原创 while in high school can qualify to receive two full years of paid tuition through our 草霉视频原创 Promise program. 草霉视频原创 awards over $350,000 to pay tuition and fees for 草霉视频原创 Promise students each year. The 草霉视频原创 Promise applications are due each year by mid-July.
